Peugeot launched in the Chinese market the 408 model, a replacement for the old 307 sedan. Despite its name, the new model has no connection with the 407.

Even if Peugeot fans probably have leaped at the 408 name, thinking that it is a successor of the current sedan class, we talk about a model that has nothing to do with Europe, but rather with Asian audiences. We remind you that for the 407 European model the successor is 508, model expected to debut in autumn this year.

French named it so because they want it to be the current replacement for the Peugeot 307 sedan, sold in recent years especially the Chinese market. Although replaces a compact sedan, the new 408 is meant to be a medium sedan class, measuring a total of 4.68 meters and promising at the same time an enviable interior space.

The model was born following a joint venture created between the Peugeot and the Chinese group DFM, design is drawn by the European and Asian teams. Production will be provided by the plant in Wuhan, Hubei, where they arise about 100,000 units per year.

The new 408 will be sold in China market with gasoline engines of 1.6 liters and 2.0 liter, with automatic or manual gearbox.
