The new six-cylinder diesel engine from BMW that debut on 740d models will be introduced in X5 and X6. Models that will receive this engine will be called xDrive 40d.
BMW will deploy the six-cylinder diesel engine found on the new 740d F01 and on the X5 and X6, the xDrive versions of these models. The 3.0 liter diesel engine that offers 300 hp and 600 Nm will also be available on SUV’s and SAC from BMW. The new engine is accompanied by an ZF automatic transmission with eight-speeds.
The new models will be called X6 xDrive 40d X5 xDrive 40d to equivalent the rival models from Audi and Mercedes-Benz in terms of performance, while they provide a lower fuel consumption and lower emissions. The use of an engine with 2992 cc will offer advantages in terms of fees and taxes, a reduced size compared to that of competitors in many countries of the world, especially in Europe. Americans will not receive two new versions of its X5 and X6.
The new BMW X5 xDrive 40d and X6 xDrive 40d will be presented at the Geneva Motor Show in March this year. In the case of the BMW 740d, the engine with six cylinders can make the car accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.3 seconds, while emitting only 181 grams of CO2 per kilometer.
