Official: Rome will host the F1 races in the near future
Rome said it had signed a contract with Bernie Ecclestone to host Formula 1 racing, following the starting year to be 2012 or 2013.
The city of Rome will be included in the competitive Formula 1 calendar in the coming years, according to an official announcement made by the organizers.
They have said they have already signed a contract with Bernie Ecclestone, the commercial rights holder representative of the competition, but did not mention the exact date of the first race on the streets of the capital of Italy. “The deal with Bernie Ecclestone to bring the Grand Prix of Rome to life was already made and signed,” said Maurizio Flammini, race organizer, the Peninsula Press.
The organizers have not confirmed the starting year of the Grand Prix of Rome, they hope that the first race to take place in 2012, at the same time, Ecclestone has recently indicated that this event will be included in the schedule most likely starting in 2013.
Currently, the Grand Prix of Italy is hosted on the circuit at Monza, and this time no reliable information if it will be removed from the schedule or if Rome will become the second race in Formula 1 in the Peninsula, as the circuit Valencia in Spain.
