BMW today unveiled the first images and information with the new 5 Series Sedan F10. Bavarian competitor model is upper middle segment, which is already struggling and Infiniti G37 Sedan, Audi A6, Mercedes-Benz E-Klasse W211 and Lexus GS. As you can see, the three models in this segment are German and two are Japanese. Numerical inferiority of the Japanese did not prevent them to develop models at least as competitive as those of the Germans, but the Japanese are still behind in terms of popularity on the old continent.

DESIGN

The first item that you can compare to these models is the design. In this chapter stand out models F10 BMW 5 Series, Mercedes-Benz E-Klasse and Infiniti G37 sedan, followed by the Audi A6 and Lexus GS, which presents a more conventional design. If Mercedes-Benz E-Klasse and Infiniti G37 have drawn praise even from all members of the public, the two models could be raised – depending on the opinions and tastes – from the design of the BMW 5 Series. Elements of design Chris Bangle had been removed and the model integrates much better range.

INTERIOR

In the field of interior design, F10 BMW 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Klasse scores again with this most modern and attractive interior in the segment. In third place is the most avid Infiniti, followed closely by Audi and Lexus, the interior offers little more conservative, but they abound and in luxury. Increased the wheelbase of the BMW 5 Series F10 offers 13 mm extra for the rear passengers compared with the previous generation, which already provide a good level of knee space for its class. PRICE

For the price of the new BMW 5 Series is not yet available, we can only do a comparison between other models in this segment, find out which is cheaper and what engine it is equipped. Entry-level version in the Audi A6 range is equipped with a propelling the 2.0 liter TFSI that develops 170 hp and 280 Nm and has a starting price of 35,700 euros all taxes included. The cheapest Mercedes-Benz E-Klasse W211 is 220 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY model, which is equipped with a diesel engine of 2143 cc and 170 hp, which gives a torque of 360 Nm and has a starting price of 41,591 euros, although taxes. Version of the Lexus GS’s, Business model 300 is equipped with a diesel engine of 249 hp and 310 Nm, obtained from a displacement of 2995 cc and with a starting price of 49,423 euros, all taxes included. Infiniti G37 is the only engine available, Otto unit of 3.7 liters and 320 hp, which offers 360 Nm and comes with three versions of equipment. The cheapest Infiniti G37 starts at 41,900 euros, all taxes included. The current E60 BMW 5 Series starts at 37,009 euros including all taxes, 520i version is equipped with a propeller of 2.0 liters, which offers 170 hp and 210 Nm. At the moment, the cheapest entry-level model of Audi A6 class is followed by the current version of Series 5 E60. The most expensive model in this class is the Infiniti G37, but it is the most powerful in the rankings above.

ENGINE

The new BMW 5 Series F10 will be available with three diesel and Otto four units at launch. Depending on the options available transmission, the BMW offers 13 of the engine and transmission combinations available. The new range of entry-level 5 Series F10 is 520d, which is equipped with a 2.0-liter diesel engine offers 184 hp and 380 Nm. This version of BMW 5 Series is the most economical in the history of this model, giving an average consumption of 5.0 liters in the mixed regime of fuel per 100 km. Peak range 5 F10 BMW 550i is the version which will remain the most powerful in range to start the new M5 F10. This version is equipped with a 4.4 liter V8 unit offers 407 hp and develops a torque of 600 Nm. Thus, the new F10 BMW 5 Series 550i version will be the most powerful upper middle segment, except M5 and E63 AMG versions. The nearest power models of the BMW 550i F10 are Mercedes-Benz E 500 4MATIC equipped with a 5.0 liter V8 engine that develops 388 hp and 530 Nm and Lexus GS 460, equipped himself with a V8 engine that develops 347 hp and 460 Nm. Infiniti offers a single propeller in the range of G37, as this is the unit of 3.7 liters, which offers 320 horsepower.

DIMENSIONS

In terms of size, the new BMW 5 Series F10 has a length of 4899 mm, a width of 1860 mm and a height of 1464 mm. The wheelbase of this model is 2968 mm, while the mass release of 550i is 1830 kg. In comparison, the Audi A6 is longer and almost as wide, while the A6’s height is greater. Table top version of Audi’s A6 is less than 30 kilograms than the 550i version of BMW’s 5 F10, but the difference between them is compensated by the fact that the Audi A6 4.2 FSI developing 350 hp compared to the 407’s BMW’s 550i F10.

Top of the range Mercedes-Benz E-Klasse, E500 4MATIC model has a length of 4868 mm, a width of 1854 mm and a height of 1471 mm. Mass of this model is 1735 kilograms, 95 kilograms less than the top range 5 Series F10. The Infiniti G37 has a length of 4775 mm and a width of 1770 millimeters, while the latter is at the height of 1,450 mm. Infiniti G37 Sedan mass is 1784 kilograms and is somewhat lighter than the BMW 550i F10. Also, Infiniti G37 sedan is shorter, narrower and shorter than the BMW 5 Series F10, but this is not necessarily a disadvantage. The other Japanese rival in this segment, Lexus GS 460 has a length of 4850 mm, a width of 1820 mm and a height of 1430 mm, while its mass is at the level of 1735 pounds.
